This is the half of a village guide nobody writes: where to draw money, when the pharmacy shuts, which number answers at the health centre. It was researched against Câmara Municipal de Sines and Junta de Freguesia sources on 15 August 2026.
Three things came back unresolved, and they are marked as such rather than smoothed over. Where two official sources disagree (the market hours do), you get both, because knowing they disagree is what tells you to go early.
This is not official information. It was gathered from municipal, parish and public listings, and every entry below carries the source it came from and the date we checked it. Hours change, numbers change, and two official sources sometimes disagree, which we record rather than resolve. Confirm anything you are relying on, and in a medical emergency dial 112 rather than reading a web page.

The parish publishes two different numbers for it (269 905 006 and 269 905 128), so try both. Opening hours are not published anywhere we could find. In an emergency dial 112. The nearest hospital is the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano at Santiago do Cacém.

Hospital CUF Sines, Avenida General Humberto Delgado, Lote 7. About 15 minutes.
Formerly Hospital Particular do Alentejo, so signs and maps may still say HPA. Useful with travel insurance for consultations, imaging and diagnostics. It has NO 24-hour emergency department: phone during the day, and at night or at a weekend dial 112 or go to the A&E above.

Mercado Municipal de Porto Covo, on the Estrada Municipal 554.
The Câmara and the Junta publish different hours. The Câmara says Monday to Saturday 08:00-13:00; the Junta says 07:00-13:00 closed Mondays, and open every day in the bathing season. We have not been able to resolve which is current, so go early and expect the Junta version in summer.

Post office
We could not find a CTT office or postal point in Porto Covo, and could not confirm the nearest one either. Rather than guess, we are saying so. If you know, please tell us.
Dogs on the beaches
We could not find a municipal edital for Sines setting out beach dog rules, and no beach here is confirmed as dog-friendly year round. Do not rely on us for this one: read the signage at the beach itself, which carries the current rule.
What we have learned here
We live with this village for part of every year, and some of what that teaches you is not written down anywhere. This is the useful half.
Two places, one number that matters, and a Sunday problem. What the price symbols on a listing site will not tell you.
Five places shut on a Tuesday, including two of the best-known tables. Both of the cheap options shut on a Sunday. And for nine of them nobody publishes a closing day at all.
