Porto Covo is about 170 km south of Lisbon, roughly an hour and three quarters by car. There is no train and no direct bus, so the practical answer for most visitors is to drive. Here are the exact routes from Lisbon, Faro and beyond, plus parking and car-hire advice.

By car
From Lisbon take the A2 motorway south, cross the Ponte 25 de Abril, and continue past Grândola. Leave the A2 for the A26/IP8 towards Sines, then follow the N120 and local road into Porto Covo. It is a straightforward, well-signed 1h 45 drive.
From Faro and the Algarve, head west on the A22, then north on the N120 through Odemira and Cercal do Alentejo, about 1h 30. This route doubles as a scenic drive up the Vicentine coast.
Driving is by far the easiest way to reach Porto Covo and to explore the beaches and day trips once you are here. If you are flying in, hiring a car at Lisbon or Faro airport is the practical choice.
Without a car
There is no train to Porto Covo and no direct coach from Lisbon. The usual car-free route is a Rede Expressos coach to Sines or Vila Nova de Milfontes, then a short taxi or transfer into the village. In summer, seasonal buses run along the coast, but services are limited.
Rota Vicentina walkers often arrive on foot or by transfer between stage villages. If you are coming without a car and want a hand arranging the last leg, message Ivy before you travel.
Taxis and ride-hailing
Uber and Bolt both work in Porto Covo, but no driver waits here. The cars come out from Sines, so a ride you order in the village takes 17 to 30 minutes to arrive, not the two or three minutes the app suggests in a city. A guest arriving in August gave up waiting for one and said afterwards he wished he had booked something in advance.
There is also a taxi rank in the village. It is on Rua do Norte, beside the Os Correios stationery shop, and the number is 967 678 171. The rank in Sines is on Avenida General Humberto Delgado, on 269 632 405.
Both numbers are published by the Câmara Municipal de Sines and were read from its site on 23 August 2026. We have not called them ourselves, so treat them as a starting point rather than a promise, and book ahead if your arrival depends on it.
