Plan a day in Porto Covo

Tell it the day, the hour you would leave the apartment and what you feel like, and it lays out the order: which beach the tide and wind suit at the hour you would arrive, which restaurants are actually open that day, the walk from the door and the number to ring. Every place named here is one somebody has stood in.

Common questions

Planning a Porto Covo trip

How many days should I spend in Porto Covo?

Three days is the practical minimum for Porto Covo: enough for the village, Praia Grande and one or two of the quieter beaches. Five to seven days lets you add the day trips and a stage of the Rota Vicentina.

What can you do in Porto Covo in one day?

A single day in Porto Covo works best as a morning at Praia Grande, lunch in the village around the Largo Marquês de Pombal, an afternoon walk along the clifftop path toward Praia dos Buizinhos, and dinner at one of the fish restaurants.

Do you need a car in Porto Covo?

Not for the village itself, which is small enough to cross on foot in ten minutes, and the main beaches are walkable. A car matters for the outlying beaches to the south and for any day trip, since there is no train and no direct bus.

What is the best time of year to visit Porto Covo?

June and September are the sweet spot: warm water, long days and far fewer people than August, which is full but never scorching on this coast. Spring and autumn suit walkers, and winter is mild but quiet, with the restaurants on shorter winter hours.
